ABOUT NIKKA

Nikkoline Myren Grønning, known as Nikka, was born on 9 December 1916 during the First World War. Nikka and six siblings grew up on the farm together with their parents and grandparents.

Nikka learned to cook at an early age and during the construction of the Trollstigen she worked as a cook for the construction crews who built the spectacular road by hand. In 2020, the important efforts and work of Nikka and the other women who worked at the plant were honored with their own turn in Trollstigen. Nikka married during the Second World War. She and her husband lived for a time in Svolvær together with their two children. But Nikka missed the farm, the mountains and the forest, and the family therefore moved back home and took over the farm. For several decades, the husband nevertheless traveled to Svolvær in winter and spring to work, and Nikka then ran the farm alone with the children. Everyone had to help, that's how it was in those days. The husband died suddenly in 1975 and Nikka then ran the farm alone until the eldest son took over.

Nikka is concerned with equality, women's rights and women's education. She herself had a dream to train as a nurse, but it didn't turn out that way.

Nikka is a familiar name to many. After several television appearances, the whole country has become fond of the fun-loving sweet old lady with an infectious laugh and good mood. Originally, it was the rich knowledge of cooking and baking that she was known for, and Nikka has spread the joy of food throughout the country. Nikka offers herself and her wonderful attitude to life and exuberant energy inspire young and old alike.
